Mining & Orebody, operators and tradespeople

Closing date:

Region: West Australia - Pilbara

"Rio Tinto Iron's role in the current resources boom presents an ideal opportunity for Aboriginal Western Australians to share in the thriving economy.

With a large proportion of our global mining operations located in Western Australia, we are experiencing huge demand for local skills and labour and we're looking to boost the number of Aboriginal people we employ.

This is part of a longer-term goal of encouraging Aboriginal people to join our workforce, as we believe those who have a traditional interest in the land where we operate, should have every chance to benefit from our mining activities.

To help Aboriginal Western Australians make the most of our employment opportunities, we have a wide range of employment, training and education programs.

These give adult Aboriginal people the chance to become work-ready and join our team and provide opportunities for the next generation of younger workers to advance their education and pursue their chosen careers.

If you're an Aboriginal Western Australian thinking of entering the mining industry, now is a great time to consider a career with Rio Tinto Iron Ore.

Our iron ore, operations are based in the Pilbara and we have corporate functions and support services based out of Perth.

Rio Tinto Iron Ore is the largest employer of Aboriginal people in the Pilbara, outside of government, and currently employ more than 200 Aboriginal people and potentially in excess of 100 more through our various contractors across our Western Australian operations.

As an equal opportunity employer we encourage Aboriginal men and women to apply for all positions and we have a range of roles for skilled workers, qualified tradespeople and professionals, as well as opportunities for traineeships and apprenticeships. All of our training is linked to national competency standards and provide accreditation recognised nationally.

Apprenticeships and Traineeship

Other Programs

Experienced operators and qualified tradespeople
People with skills and experience in operating large earthmoving equipment, driving haul trucks, working with fixed plant equipment or working in open pit mining can join our iron ore operations as an Operator. We also require qualified tradespeople in a range of fields, and as our operations continue to expand, many more positions are becoming available.

Fly-in, Fly-out
While our primary goal is to employ people who live near our operations, we also recruit trained and skilled individuals who live further afield. Our fly-in, fly-out operations allow for people based in Perth, Broome (Kimberley region) and Geraldton (Mid-West region) to enjoy the benefits of working for Rio Tinto on-site without relocating permanently.

As our operations continue to expand we are actively recruiting for a wide range of roles across the State.
