Annika Pitt sings Natives of the Land and Sea

18 October 2004

One of the highlights of the recent Yawuru trading floor was the moving rendition of Australia's new Indigenous National Anthem Natives of the Land and Sea by 19 year old Annika Pitt. Many are calling this young woman "the Aretha of the Kimberley"! The webcast is now on-line for those who didn't make it to Broome.

When Annika sang this song a real feeling of good well ran through the audience. Gerhardt Pearson came onto the stage and asked everyone to take a big deep breath because in so many ways Annika's performance represented what the ISX was all about: drawing attention to the talents and riches of Indigenous Australia and specially Indigenous young people.

Annika may be contacted through Dot West and Kevin Fong, Goolarri Media, Broome, 08-9192-1325

Natives of the Land and Sea, written by Marcia Ware, was first performed nationally in the second series of the "Mary G TV Show" produced by Goolarri in 2002 and shown on SBS TV in 2003. Annika is accompanied by Lyndon Jenkins.
