Goolarri Success Story

Goolarri Media is a special ISX success story. A vision to solve the problems created by the great physical distances in Australia between rural and urban centers, indigenous and non-indigenous communities, and the efforts placed into solving that issue, have brought forth a whole new long-lasting solution to rectify and correct the status quo in Australia--communities that had not been previously well communicated with and 'linked' to the rest of the country became communicated with and linked in--this opened up a host of doors for business opportunities and investment into the Indigenous community. The 'tyranny of distance', as Kevin Fong, Managing Director Goolarri Media calls it, was the driving catalyst that caused him to form a company that would address just that issue, the award-winning Outback Digital Network (ODN).

The digital network creates major links between not only Indigenous and Non-Indigenous people but between the 300 language groups and nations of Indigenous people themselves. ODN has been nominated as one of the best remote area communications vehicles in the world. With ODN, Cape York thru the Aboriginal company Balkanu, created the Indigenous Stock Exchange. Kevin Fong and partners then used the ISX trading floor in Broome to 'pitch' the ODN concept and raise more funds for it. The ISX trading floor concept to utilize the web, video and film helped Kevin Fong to break the tyranny of distance and his pitch was heard by many communities and investors.

Seeing the potential on the trading floor for business-ready entrepreneurs to attract investment for small business development, the company where he is managing director, Goolarri Media in Broome, co-hosted the following trading floor. Indeed, not only did Goolarri co-host the trading floor, it received a fifteen thousand dollar innovation grant from the Brotherhood of Saint Lawrence.

The innovation grant was utilized specifically to create a Center of Excellence at the Goolarri headquarters in Broome. The benefits of the innovation grant won by Goolarri presenting on the ISX trading floor were very significant. This grant was leveraged to receive other funds to develop a Community Learning and Media Lab. More specifically, the innovation grant which allowed the Goolarri team to set up the Center of Excellence was leveraged to then receive funds of one hundred thousand dollars from the Commonwealth Government and three hundred forty seven thousand dollars from a philanthropic donor to develop a Community of Learning and Media Lab.

Goolarri is planning to utilize some of those funds to strategize and develop a business plan to raise six million dollars from private industry and government.
