    New accommodation facility for Indigenous mothers. Expectant Indigenous mothers and their babies in North Queensland will have greater access to ante-natal and post-natal care at a new 24-bed accommodation facility in Cairns. The Australian Government has provided more than $5 million for the facility.

    The Yachad Accelerated Learning Project is designed to improve outcomes and address inequalities in Indigenous and Remote education. The Project leaders are Prof Marcia Langton AM of the University of Melbourne and Dr. Zane Ma Rhea of Monash University. Helene Teichmann of HTT Associates is the Convenor of the Yachad Accelerated learning Project.

  • Historic Cattle Alliance 15 June 2004
    The historic meeting between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Pastoralists at the ISX on May 19 has led to a new alliance between the Northern Cattleman’s Alliance (NCA) and the Kimberley Aboriginal Pastoralists Association (KAPA).

Northern Territory

  • NT Safe Houses 30 January 2009
    Doors begin to open on safe places across the NT. The Australian and Northern Territory Governments today opened a women's safe house and a men's cooling off place in the remote community of Ngukurr, as part of a roll-out of 22 safe places across the Northern Territory as part of the Northern Territory Emergency Response. Ngukurr is one of 15 remote communities in the NT to receive safe places under a joint initiative between the Australian and Northern Territory Governments to improve the safety and protection of Indigenous children and their families.

West Australia - Kimberley

  • Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan Kimberley Sport and Recreation 21 October 2004
    We are delighted that along with the Clontarf Sporting Academy the mighty Garnduwa are sending a group of representatives to take part in the Yorta Yorta trading floor and sporting activities to follow. Garnduwa is the peak Indigenous sporting body in the Kimberley and is responsible for the development of local, regional, state and national participation in sport and recreational activities by indigenous people.

  • Carol Martin MLA to open Yawuru Trading Floor 15 April 2004
    Carol Martin, Member for the Kimberley, the first Indigenous Woman elected to an Australian parliament is to open the Yawuru Trading Floor on May 19.
