Mildura 3500

Mildura residents have formed a new Indigenous cooperative based around a community radio station.

The group, called the Black Light Indigenous Corporation, has been granted a licence to broadcast in Mildura and Robinvale and is in negotiations with funding bodies.

One of the corporation's directors, Dale Johnson, says the radio station will allow parts of the community to have a voice for the first time.

"Once it does get going, young Aboriginal people will actually listen to whatever we've got to say and not only just Aboriginal people, other people too," he said.

"People could ring in ... and give us more understanding and give them more understanding on the Aboriginal community ... how it is for us."
